This is a little community in the eastern foothills that understands the concept of what is important. Dunlap has long held strong the traditions of how to pull together to make things work. This small community knows the true meaning of family.
This concept is why we are seeing more people move into the community in search of a better place to raise their families or to find the solace that the mountains offer. This community doesn't reject the newcomers, it embraces them. It doesn't take long to realize that the community, while not being unique, is special. It is a place where you not only know all your neighbors, but you can trust your neighbors. You know they will be there to help should trouble arise. You feel safe in the knowledge that someone is looking out for you. It is not a place where that applies to one or two neighbors; it is a place where that applies to the entire community. It is truly apparent when you drive down the road and everyone waves to you. You may not even know who they are, but they are acknowledging that they accept you into their community as one of their own and will look out for you, your children, your pets,or your home.
This little community didn't just happen to be this way, it took years of tradition being handed down from generation to generation to achieve. Some of it dates back to the old Farm Bureau picnics, the gathering and branding of cattle, and dances in the old dance hall; and some of it dates back even further to the logging of the redwoods. What really makes this community special is its dedication to hold on to these values. It is evident in all of the local clubs and oraganizations that work so hard to improve the quality of life. Organizations like the Volunteer Fire Department who protect our homes and property with their lives, the Rodeo Association and 4H Club that teach our children the value of hard work, and the Community Club that strives to join all the organizations together to provide everyone with the opportunity to get to know their neighbors, to find common ground, and get together to celebrate this wondrous place in which we all live.
In a true sense of tradition the Club is designed to bring families together to enjoy a relaxing day of fun and entertainment while meeting their neighbors (maybe even find out who that is that has been waving to them). While the proceeds from club activities go toward the general welfare of the community. Spending time together, playing, and watching our children grow is the glue that helps to make us strong.
